F.A.Q. – TECHNICAL QUESTIONS

Question:

  • How much is the power consumption (in watt) of A001E WodaPlug Ethernet Adaptor from 230 volt power supply?

Answer:
The power consumption of A001E WodaPlug Ethernet Adaptor has a power consumption of 3.6 watt at the power supply system.

Question:

  • On which level does the A001E WodaPlug Ethernet Adaptor transmit?

Answer:
The transmitting power spectrum is -50dBm/Hz, on amateur radio frequencies -80dbm/Hz, with a bandwidth of about 17MHz is that about +22dBm (160mW) or about -8dBm (160uW) (all values based on 50 Ohm). As the coupling is symmetrical, only a small part of this performance is radiated.

Question:

  • Is A001E WodaPlug Ethernet Adaptor compatible to WodaPlug devices
    of other manufacturers?

Answer:
To obtain an optimum performance and usability, we recommend users to use A001E WodaPlug Ethernet Adaptors. They are tested and proven on interoperability.

Furthermore, A001E WodaPlug Ethernet Adaptor is compatible to the WodaPlug standard, i.e. it operates with all other devices being compatible to this standard.

Question:

  • In my house are three separate phases. Can A001E WodaPlug Ethernet
Adaptor connect one phase to another?

Answer:
Yes, it can. Phase coupling operates without an installation of a phase coupler using A001E WodaPlug Ethernet Adaptor. You also can establish your network connections via two or three phases.

Question:

  • I’m living in a very old house with old power supply lines (partly without separated ground wire). Does A001E the WodaPlug Ethernet Adaptor operates nevertheless?

Answer:
A001E WodaPlug Ethernet Adaptor will also operate correctly in this case.

Question:

  • Can I plug the A001E WodaPlug Ethernet Adaptor into an extension or into a multiple socket (partly with switch) or do I have to plug it directly in the wall socket?

Answer:
Yes, you can plug the A001E WodaPlug Ethernet Adaptor into an extension or into a multiple socket.

Question:

  • Do I have to worry about an electric shock by the Ethernet?

Answer:
No, you don’t have to. The two electric circuits are separated from each other.

Question:

  • On which frequencies does the A001E WodaPlug Ethernet Adaptor operate? Does this technology interfere the reception of radio or amateur radio?

Answer:
Typically today radio the reception (FM) take place on in the range of 87.2 to 108MHz. The frequencies used by A001E WodaPlug Ethernet Adaptor are in the range of 4MHz to 21MHz and so they cannot interfere your radio reception.

The technology is based on the WodaPlug standard, in which the transmitting level is specially lowered in the amateur radio band. The used transmitting level is very small and by the symmetrical coupling, only a small part of this power will be radiated by the power grid. Consequently in the amateur band are none interferences awaited.

Question:

  • Is there a risk that electromagnetic interferences distribute all-over in the house even to the neighbours when using A001E WodaPlug Ethernet Adaptors?

Answer:
A001E WodaPlug Ethernet Adaptor is tested according to the same norms like other electric devices (EN55022), the devices generate the same noise level than other electrical equipment. So that A001E WodaPlug Ethernet Adaptor does produce more interference than a power drill.

Question:

  • The power supply operates with 50Hz. Is it possible to achieve reasonable ping times in the range of milliseconds?

Answer:
A001E WodaPlug Ethernet Adaptor doesn’t operate with a 50Hz alternating frequency. It operates in the range of MHz. Hence the ping times in the range of msec are possible.

Question:

  • Are the data transmission rates as high as the rates of the conventional DSL connection?

Answer:
The bandwidth of A001E WodaPlug Ethernet Adaptor depends on the interferences on your power cabling and of the quality of the electrical installation. It ranges from 5 MBit to 14 MBit (a conventional DSL connection has 0.768 MBit download and 0.128 MBit upload rate). This is quite sufficient for extending the DSL connection to all rooms in the house.

Question:

  • I got the impression, that the transmission rates, which are indicated by the Configuration Utility, are uncommonly low. Which values are in the realm of normality? What can I do to boost the transmission rates?

Answer:
Under normal circumstances, transmission rates of 5-8 MBit/s are not uncommon. Please remember that the transmission rate falls with increasing reach (up to 5000 square feet) and number of adapters (reasonable not more than 10-15). The max throughput that the technology can support is about 8.2~8.5Mbit/s. The more common rate should be 3~5Mbit/s.

To increase the data rate you should attend to plug the A001E WodaPlug Ethernet Adaptor directly into the wall socket. Don’t use unnecessary extension cable and multiple sockets.

If this cannot be avoided, please attend, that the multiple socket doesn’t have any crowbar circuit or over-voltage or surge protector. This could impair or even inhibit the data transmission. Plug in as few as possible devices in the multiple socket.

Question:

  • In order to increase the distance of my A001E WodaPlug Ethernet Adapter Network, I am looking for a A001E WodaPlug Ethernet Adapter repeater. Do you offer such a product?

Answer:
You can increase the distance, by combining two A001E WodaPlug Ethernet Adaptor networks with two different network passwords. The repeater is built up by two standard A001E WodaPlug Ethernet Adaptors, which you simply connect via an Ethernet RJ45 cable. Please note that physically you are still using one medium, this means the bandwidth will be shared between both networks. You can repeat this procedure several times.
